ANNOUNCEMENTS
Brown Bag CLE: Our next CLE program is on Thursday, September 23, 2010 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room at the Douglas County Judicial Center. Shon Qualseth will present a one hour program on FaceBook Ethics. We've applied for one hour of CLE credit with 1 hour ethics. Our "Brown Bag" CLE's are free for members of the Douglas County Bar Association, $45.00 for non-members. Please email secretary@dgbar.org in advance if you plan to attend so we can have enough CLE affidavits on hand for attendees.
Charitable Donations: To promote the DCBA's ongoing effort to serve our community, there will be a donation jar at our monthly socials for members to make contributions for a local charity/cause that will be selected by the DCBA officers on a monthly or quarterly basis. DCBA members will be notified of the amount raised at each monthly social and the name of the selected charity. The first charity to benefit from the DCBA's charitable contributions will be CASA.
The DCBA Fall Party is scheduled for October 7, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. with hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill by our own Andy Bolton to be served between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. The rain date is Friday, October 8, 2010. The price is $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Rick Hird has graciously agreed to host the social at his home located at 856 E. 1150th Road, Baldwin City, Kansas. Families are welcome to attend. Hayrack rides and fire pit with marshmallows and smores available for the kids and young at heart! We will have a donation jar on the food table if any of you are inclined to make a donation to our local charities. Please RSVP and remit payment to Jody Meyer, DCBA Treasurer, P.O. Box 1966, Lawrence, Kansas 66044 by September 30, 2010 to allow us time to plan for the food and drink. You can print out this invitation and RSVP form to mail with your payment. 
The Law Library's Reels of Justice Film Series will present
The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean
on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
in the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium.
Paul Newman portrays the infamous Judge Roy Bean, a no-account outlaw turned hangin' judge who holds court in his saloon and pines for Lily Langtree. One of our local attorneys will provide commentary and insight on the film's portrayal of the legal system.

The DCBA Holiday Party is scheduled for December 2, 2010. Cocktails will be available beginning at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. Details about location, price and dinner menu will follow. Spouses and significant others are invited to attend. The DCBA will also honor its retirees. Please email secretary@dgbar.org with the name and information of any attorneys that have retired or plan to retire in 2010 to allow us to recognize them and their contribution to DCBA and the legal profession. 
Football Tailgate Season. The University of Kansas School of Law Student Bar Association invites members of the Douglas County Bar Association to join students and faculty at tailgates during KU home football games this season. Last year's tailgates were a great success. The LSBA also invites the DCBA to sponsor a tailgate. If, please contact Ryan Schwarzenberger or our Student Bar Association president, Natasha Das. Tailgates are an excellent opportunity for our students to get in touch with a variety of professional organizations and learn more about the legal profession from current members.

- October 23 (KU vs. Texas A&M - Homecoming)
- November 6 (KU vs. Colorado)
- November 20 (KU vs. Oklahoma State)
DCBA membership dues are due January 1 each year. Fill out and submit the online membership form, then print it and mail with your check for $45.00 to Douglas County Bar Association, P.O. Box 1966, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
The law Library registration fee is due January 15 each year. Send a completed registration form and $10.00 payable to "Douglas County Law Library" to the Law Library at 111 East 11th Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044. Failure to pay results in suspension of filing privileges at the Clerk of Court's office and forfeiture of library key.
