ANNOUNCEMENTS

A Few Good Men The Law Library's Reels of Justice Film Series will present A Few Good Men on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium. The film stars Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Kevin Bacon whose uncle's cousin's son went to school with the brother of my fourth grade piano teacher's husband. Cocky JAG attorney Cruise has to step up his attitude as well as his game when he defends two young "Gitmo" Marines accused of waterboarding a Muslim terrorist... oh, wait, that's a different story. In this movie, the defendants are accused of murdering a fellow marine with a "code red". The defendants think it's a matter of honor, but Cruise goes with a Nuremberg defense, asserting they were acting under orders from base commander Nicholson, portrayed as the stereotypical military career officer who's lost touch with basic human values. "You can't handle the truth!" asserts Nicholson, in an ironic assessment of Hollywood's liberal mentality. Local attorney Martin L. Miller will add commentary on the film and its portrayal of the legal system. The screening is free and open to the public. The next film in the Reels of Justice Series will be Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 classic, Dial M for Murder, scheduled for screening in May. For more information, visit the Law Library's Film Series Page.
