ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Law Library's Reels of Justice Film Series will present Sergeant Rutledge on Friday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at the Lawrence Public Library. The movie, set in the post Civil War frontier, portrays the court-martial of a black sergeant of the Ninth Cavalry (Buffalo Soldiers) charged with raping and killing a white woman and murdering her father, his commanding officer. The 1960 film, considered by many to have been years ahead of its time, was directed by John Ford and stars Woody Strode as the accused Sgt. Braxton Rutledge and Jeffrey Hunter as defense counsel Lt. Tom Cantrell. The presentation will include commentary by prominent local attorney and former prosecutor Martin Miller. For more information, visit the Law Library's Film Series Page.
