Legal Essay Contest

Topic:  "The Importance of an Independent Judiciary"

Deadline: April 7, 2008. ()

Eligibility:  Seniors attending a high school in Douglas County, Kansas who will be advancing their formal education after graduation.

Rules:  The essay length should be 500 to 1000 words, written by the student. Quotes or cites must be properly attributed to their source. The first (cover) page should contain only the student's name, address, phone number, email address (if any) and name of high school; the essay itself should start a new page. No information indentifying the student is to be contained in the essay itself. The essay must be submitted electronically in MS Word (doc) format to division4@douglas-county.com. When printed for judging, the cover page will be removed and a number assigned to the essay before it is reviewed by the panel members who will be judging the essays.

Notification:  Authors of the top three essays will be notified no later than April 23, 2008. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the annual Law Day luncheon.

Scholarship Prizes: 1st place: $1,100.00; 2nd place: $850.00; 3rd place: $500.00.
